Is "Little Treat Culture" Out For 2026, Or Just On A Budget?

We’ve all done it. Stopping by the new matcha place that’s all over social media that you just had to try. Rewarding yourself with a new beauty product for submitting your homework on time. Or, a personal favorite of mine, unwinding from a hard week with a thrift store run… only to awaken from a shopping haze to wonder how you spent that much at Goodwill.Whether your vice is coffee, clothes, cookies, or Labubus, “little treat culture” has cemented itself in society ...

Flash flood warnings from Albuquerque NWS on pace to rival historic high

The Albuquerque National Weather Service office has issued more than 180 flash flood warnings — and counting — this year.

Todd Shoemake, a meteorologist for the Albuquerque office, said the office is “on pace” to rival the record number of warnings issued last year at 278.

Shoemake attributes the rise in warnings issued with a rise in observed flooding events. As of Aug. 15, the office has observed over 200 flooding events.

“Our office will issue the Flash Flood Warning 20-40 minutes before flooding is actually observed for any given location,” Shoemake said in an email. “Sometimes, a Flash Flood Warning may be issued and there are multiple instances of flooding observed within the area covered by that particular warning.”

About 100 protesters demonstrate outside Albuquerque Walmart

“Burque over billionaires” was the rallying cry for over 100 protesters outside the Walmart on Coors Boulevard near Interstate 40 on Sunday.

Earlier this month, a video depicting federal immigration enforcement officers detaining a man at that Walmart went viral. The man can be heard screaming and at one point falls backward and hits his head. The original video was shared on Facebook over 10,000 times and garnered almost 3,500 comments.

'I would love to just make them feel special': 2024 Miss New Mexico USA, nonprofit hold makeover extravaganza for children in foster care

A small 11-month-old girl, wrapped in a green dress with sparkly blue detailing, was suddenly engulfed in a sea of pink. Her purple headband was barely visible in the storm of hot pink ruffles coming off Miss New Mexico USA’s dress. The baby grabbed for the pageant queen’s tiara, barely out of reach from her place in Mackenzie Sydow’s arms.

Sydow gingerly took it off, offering it to the child, who wiggled with excitement.

Sydow, as her last event as reigning Miss New Mexico USA, partnered with the New Mexico Child First Network, a supportive nonprofit for children in foster care, for a Girl’s Day event at Hotel Albuquerque on Saturday.
